Will Trace run on my Mac?
Trace needs an Apple silicon Mac (M1 or later) on macOS 14.4 or newer. It does not run on Intel Macs. The 7-day trial is the surest way to check before you buy anything.
How many Macs can I use?
Whatever your tier covers: 1 on Solo, 2 on Personal, 5 on Extended, 20 on Team. Deactivate a Mac from Settings ▸ Licence any time to free up a slot.
I bought Trace already. Does anything change?
No. Every licence bought before the tiers went live keeps its 2 Macs for good, and updates stay free. You don’t need to buy anything again.
Is there a subscription?
No. Trace is £0 a month. You pay once, the app is yours, and every future version is included. There’s no account to cancel and nothing running in the cloud to pay for.
What does activating send?
Just your licence key and a one-way hash of the Mac it runs on, so the device count can work. No name, no audio, no transcripts. After that one check Trace runs entirely offline, and your recordings never leave the Mac.
Do I need an Apple ID?
No. That’s the whole point of buying direct. You pay by card or Apple Pay, download from us, and activate with a key. No App Store, no Apple account.
Why is the App Store price £39?
Those builds have no licence system, so tiers aren’t possible there. It’s a single £39 for 2 Macs. Buying direct is the only place a 1-Mac licence exists, at £29.
What happens after the 7-day trial?
Trace asks you to activate with your licence key. Buy whenever you’re ready, and your sessions and settings stay exactly as they were.
How do updates work?
Trace checks for new versions in the background. When one’s ready it shows “Update available”, downloads a signed build, and installs it in place. No reinstalling.
Can I move up a tier later?
Not yet, so buy the tier that fits. If you outgrow it, email us and we’ll sort you out.
I lost my key. Now what?
Head to Recover key, enter your purchase email, and we’ll send it again. Your email is the only thing we keep on file, and the only thing we use it for.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, of course. Send us an email and we’ll give you a refund within 14 days, no questions asked.
Can I use my own AI model?
Yes. Point Trace at any OpenAI-compatible server in Settings under AI, like LM Studio or Ollama running on your Mac, or a hosted API. Summaries, naming, tags and Ask then run through it, and live transcription stays on-device either way.
